As a husband-and-wife team, we feel incredibly blessed to have launched 813 Coffee Co during the pandemic lockdown of 2020. While the world faced challenging and uncertain times, we found ourselves on a journey of learning and growth. We took this time to dive into the world of coffee roasting; exploring the intricacies of roasting, cupping, and developing coffee profiles at a professional level. Every roast was an opportunity to refine our skills, and we embraced the challenge of sourcing and experimenting with beans from diverse coffee-growing regions, improving each cup through careful quality control and constant experimentation. The journey was both humbling and exciting, as we worked to perfect each roast and understand the unique flavors each origin had to offer.

As much as we focused on honing our craft, we knew we wanted our business to stand for something more. We envisioned 813 Coffee Co not just as a company, but as a vessel for positive change. Our goal was simple: we wanted our coffee to be different by making a difference.  

At that moment, we were inspired by the very first coffee we roasted—a beautiful, fair-trade, organic coffee from an all-women’s cooperative in Rwanda. It was then that we made a commitment to exclusively source coffee that is women-produced, fair trade, and organic. This commitment became the heart of our business, and while we knew it would come with challenges, we also understood the powerful impact it could have—both on the the future of the coffee industry itself and the communities we work with.
