Journey In A Cup

The Origin Behind Our Coffee: A Commitment to Making a Difference

As a husband-and-wife team, we feel incredibly blessed to have launched 813 Coffee Co during the pandemic lockdown of 2020. While the world faced challenging and uncertain times, we found ourselves on a journey of learning and growth. We took this time to dive into the world of coffee roasting; exploring the intricacies of roasting, cupping, and developing coffee profiles at a professional level. Every roast was an opportunity to refine our skills, and we embraced the challenge of sourcing and experimenting with beans from diverse coffee-growing regions, improving each cup through careful quality control and constant experimentation. The journey was both humbling and exciting, as we worked to perfect each roast and understand the unique flavors each origin had to offer.

As much as we focused on honing our craft, we knew we wanted our business to stand for something more. We envisioned 813 Coffee Co not just as a company, but as a vessel for positive change. Our goal was simple: we wanted our coffee to be different by making a difference.

At that moment, we were inspired by the very first coffee we roasted—a beautiful, fair-trade, organic coffee from an all-women’s cooperative in Rwanda. It was then that we made a commitment to exclusively source coffee that is women-produced, fair trade, and organic. This commitment became the heart of our business, and while we knew it would come with challenges, we also understood the powerful impact it could have—both on the the future of the coffee industry itself and the communities we work with.

Making a Difference Today: Expanding Our Impact and Connecting with Our Community

At 813 Coffee Co, we believe that making a difference is an ongoing journey. As we continue to grow, we are focused on expanding our reach through thoughtful collaborations and deepening our connections with the local community.

One of the ways we are broadening our impact is by partnering with local coffee shops and cafes. These collaborations allow us to introduce our women-produced coffees to a larger audience while also supporting other small businesses. By supplying our coffee to local establishments, we help support other small businesses and provide a meaningful opportunity for customers to experience the difference that women-produced coffee makes.

We also believe in the power of direct engagement with our community. That is why we continue to host weekly pop-ups, where we can interact with our customers face-to-face at a personal level, educate others about the impact of sourcing from women’s cooperatives, and showcase the craftsmanship that goes into every roast. It is more than just serving coffee—it is about building relationships and connecting with those who share our passion for supporting women coffee producers. Through these pop-ups, we have been able to create meaningful conversations and foster a deeper sense of community.

Exciting New Chapter: Making a Difference at the TaSH Farmers Market

As we look ahead to the coming year, we are filled with excitement about the opportunities that lie ahead. We are thrilled to announce that starting in January 2025, 813 Coffee Co will be a regular vendor at the TaSH Farmers Market for the upcoming season!

Being a part of the TaSH Farmers Market allows us to connect with coffee lovers and local supporters in a whole new way. The farmers market is more than just a place to shop—it’s a vibrant space where people come together to celebrate small businesses and the unique stories behind each product. By becoming a regular part of this wonderful local farmers market, we are excited to continue growing our presence and serving our coffee to more people directly.

For us, being at the farmers market is more than just about selling coffee; it is an opportunity to build stronger relationships with our community and share the story of the women farmers we work with. We look forward to seeing familiar faces and welcoming new ones, all while making a difference, one cup at a time!
